let us say a collective goodbye to 2007 and focus on what's
ahead... starting with a tall cocktail.
or a book. whichever gets you where you
want to go.
I won't take up your time rehashing what the past
year brought forth, but I will say I'm pleased
with the way things have gone and look forward
to seeing what's underneath each calendar page.
a couple of noteworthy happen'nins in the camp
are the recent featuring of The Cornflakes Song
in the Dec/Jan issue of Paste magazine and the
news of this tune being spun in the overwhelming
amount of Starbucks around the country beginning
in 2008... over 10,000 stores filled with caffeine-addled
patrons bopping in double-time to a song inspired
by breakfast cereal. at least I hope.
January will be a "slow month" in the
live show arena, but I'll be taking the time to
write what I hope will be songs for the next record
-- uh, didn't I just finish one? Well, I've
got the recording bug already, so best to have
some tunes to track if I want to nestle up in
the studio again. I do have a show with
my dear friends The Nadas on February 29th at
the Beat Kitchen here in Chicago -- I'm sure other
shows will be popping up on the radar prior to
then, so stay tuned to the website or myspace
page. I'm off to South by Southwest in Austin, TX in
March with shows being booked pre and post the
festival, so hopefully I'll be hitting some venues
I'm overdue in revisiting, as well as some new
places to violate. We'll be announcing those
dates soon...
All my best to everyone in the new year, and my
thanks for your support and kindness... it's genuinely
appreciated.
Now go get a cup of coffee... ~ Dick |

| hello, All... I just wanted
to let you know that as of now I'm featured
on NME's
online media player and even have a little
separate page as a
new artist. maybe y'all could check it out
and weigh in on the little
survey thingy they have. right now I'm a
9 out of a 10, so I'm wearing
my happy pants and feeling quite pep-o-riffic
because of it.
also, "The Cornflakes Song" will be
on the Dec/Jan Paste Magazine
compilation that accompanies all of their issues.
that's some pretty
cool stuff to me 'cuz I'm a subscriber to the
mag myself. lots of good
musical, book, and cinematic finds through those
folks.
I hope all is well in your camps and that I see
many of you at the Dec.
15th show/party/hangover inducer... ~ Dick

Matthew Sweet, and Pete Yorn, tunesmith Dick Prall
interjects introspective lyrics over vocals that
range from comforting to confrontational."

for a dear friend...
other than the expected newsletters announcing
shows that request your presence, i believe i've
been fairly unobtrusive in asking for anything
beyond audience participation... just as a good
little performer should. well, folks, i'm leaning
on you for a bit more now and it's for a reason
beyond my personal gain.
a friend and long supporter of mine, Aaron Edmunson,
was recently hospitalized for dire health reasons,
resulting in him being induced into a coma and
receiving many dialysis treatments. he is
far from out of the woods and in intensive care
at this moment. to intensify matters, Aaron
is NOT insured and his medical bills, as you can
easily imagine, have already become astronomical,
placing an enormous burden on him and his wife
Libra, which they simply cannot afford.
i ask that you please - PLEASE - attend any and
all benefit shows that are taking place in your
area, and/or, click
here to make a kind donation towards helping
Aaron and Libra ease some of their financial stress.
i sincerely appreciate any support you can give
my friend.
all the best to you in 2007... ~ dick

Here's an excerpt from a review
of Dick's Park West show from last Friday (from
Illinois Entertainer)...
"Chicago’s own Dick Prall opened the show
with much more charisma than the headliner and
provided the total package for a troubadour. The
one-time Starch Martins leader turned to most
of his latest solo album, fizzlebuzzie,
including the pensive pair “Barely Moving” and
“Learning To Merge.” Prall’s voice evoked Cat
Stevens during “Grand Marquee,” a song about his
disappointment with the current state of radio
where influences like Costello and The Replacements
have been replaced by disposability. All of these
tracks could be solutions to that problem if program
directors get their act together, and hopefully
with the momentum of this prominent warm up slot,
the ball will continue to swing in this accomplished
songwriter’s favor." - Andy Argyrakis,
Illinois Entertainer

Dick signs with Authentic Records
i'm moving back home! well... sort of.
my next album will have a home at Authentic Records.
a label -- um... scratch that -- a damn
fine label based out of my home
state of Iowa. great bands like the Nadas,
Towncrier, and the Josh Davis Band are nestled
there and i'm extremely excited to be added to
their roster. plus, i'll be among friends since
the talented lads in the Nadas happen to be old
pals o' mine from back in the Dick Prall Band
days... now i have a valid excuse to tag along
with them on the road and annoy them for hours!
so, folks, please go visit www.authenticrecordsonline.com and see just what is givin' me
the happy pants...
see you at a show...

Hey folks!
While we're planning the rest of my 2007 tour,
I was hoping to get YOUR help. I'd like
to begin my House Concert Series, starting at...
your house! If you are in Illinois, Michigan,
Iowa, Indiana, Ohio or Wisconsin, please contact
my manager at jill@paperworkmedia.com
and let her know when you would like me to play
a private show -- not dance -- in the confines
of your lovely abode. (Prison does not qualify
as an "abode.")
Best to you...

“I think it moved...“
i know it’s been a spell, but i now have much
to report on, so i feel like sharing...
first off, i have new management. Jill Katona,
owner/operator of Paperwork Media, has come aboard
to start “connecting the dots,” as i like to say.
‘tis a bit hard to carry on the day-to-day duties
whilst attempting to write, perform, and record,
so Jill will be the one to help put some momentum
behind my little venture. please welcome Jill...
she’s good peeps.
next, there’s some cool promotional stuff i’ve
been picked up for:
* Volkswagen has chosen a couple of my songs -
Copperhead Town and, ironically, Grand Marquee
- for their auto show tour that is hitting 32
different U.S cities and in Canada this month.
they’ll play the tunes at the show, on a dedicated
site related to vw.com, and “other places” on
the tour...
* i just completed an interview with the Chicago
Tribune’s Redeye that focuses on the news that
MySpace.com is now going to start selling downloadable
music. look for that article (and a possible mug
shot of mine) to come out this week (10/2 – 10/6)...
* the song Copperhead Town will be a featured
download in the Nov. 1st JAM Productions’ weekly
JAM Mail...
* and last, the song Sunshine Came from my Starch
Martins days will be on the soundtrack for an
independent film called “Serial Loser” coming
out soon...
and did someone say “recording”? yes. i did. i’ll
begin recording the next album in just a couple
of weeks. it’s slated to come out in the spring
o’ 2007.
as far as touring goes - something i’ve been missing
dearly - the plan is to have me back on the road
much, much more starting in early 2007. by starting
with the southeast, hopping up to the east coast,
and trekking back on through the midwest, i intend
to get out as much as i can over the course of
the next year... this makes for a very happy me.
finally, i have a question for you folks: who
out there would like to be a part of the STREET
TEAM we’re putting together for all this touring?
i need kind souls to spread the word about shows
and promotions by putting up posters, handing
out flyers, requesting songs at local radio stations,
selling merch at shows, and doing whatever it
takes to help build the momentum. you would be
provided all the goods you need, plus free tickets
to shows and access to private shows. sound enticing?
if so, contact Jill at jill@paperworkmedia.com
that is all - and plenty - for now. i do hope
all is well in everyone else’s camp and drop me
a line at www.myspace.com/dickprall
~ Dick
(oh, and by the by, to prove that i am a man of
modernity, you can download a ringtone of Grand
Marquee by texting 16266 to MYXER (69937)…have
fun annoying folks on the train!) |
